So you have found a reliable supplier and you have customers who have placed orders and who’s ready to buy from you. Now what?
There are two ways you can set up your first shipment.
1) Supplier will assign the agent for you: Most of the suppliers have contact with agents (freight forwarders) who will handle the shipment for you. It is less work for you initially, but this method doesn’t allow you to screen your agent beforehand.
2) You assign your own agent: This way lets you do your homework before you start. You can find a good forwarder who you can build a good relationship with. Another good thing about finding your own forwarder, is that you can request rate quotes in advance, that way there will be no surprises when your products arrives.
Note: Some suppliers have strict policy on who the forwarder should be, some of them does not allow you to assign your own forwarder. Please check with individual supplier for details on this.
